dot or d?

A little bit Sunday afternoon nerdity:

Newtonian notation
is fine for the neat of hand,
but for those a little messy
Herr Leibniz is our man!

You may think a dot quite tidy –
it would suit the neat of mind,
but for changes both in time and space,
it will not do, you’ll find.

So give a cheer for Leibniz,
sing out: “give me a Dee!
‘cos that can go with Dee-Ex
as well as with Dee-Tee!”

  1. Dx, Dt, Dy not!

(A childish giggle rang out in my mind at the thought of cheerleaders shouting ‘give me the d!’)
