night songs

In response to Eugi’s weekly prompt, “Cosmos“:

The fence hums, the frogs sing
and across the hills
an owl calls for company –
and is answered.

My breath merges with the wind
softly stirring the leaves,
and my feet provide a back-beat
as I climb the hill โ€“

to where the milk in the sky flows,
a bright river above me,
pulling me upwards,
to drown in its silent symphony.

  1. Oh, I find this most lovely, Kate, and with beautiful visuals. I was captivated with your first stanza and wanted to read more. Thank you so much for participating.

  3. Oh, this is lovely, Kate! โ€œto where the milk in the sky flows,โ€ is such a beautiful line!

    • Thanks Stephen ๐Ÿ™‚
Hey, and guess what… I was wrong about being unpromotable. I got promoted this morning! I think there was only person on the panel who knew me, and they didn’t believe him… rofl. Things will be different when the owls and kookaburras are in charge!

      • Youโ€™re welcome. And congratulations! Laugh, kookaburra, laugh! You must have deserved it!

        • I think it was a field commission – mustering cats and headless chickens to get an UG engineering program moved from fully F2F to fully online in about a week. As long as they don’t expect any more miracles!

        • But you did it, so congratulations on showing you deserved the commission! (I had a bit of fun at myself for trying to figure out what Australian university was UG. Here it is the University of Georgia. After a few moments of futile searching it dawned on me, undergrad. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ™‚)

        • Sorry ๐Ÿ˜€ yes, under grad. We have so many acronyms. We get double because the campus is associated with the ADF. And I’m now an A.Prof. Not the same as a US A.Prof , we follow the British system.

        • So does the A.Prof title mean you are tenured, or does tenure have a different meaning as well?

        • I am tenured, but that happened before the promotion. Lucky for me – unis are shedding a lot of staff. Tenured people have to be made redundant, which is happening, but contract people can just be not renewed. The up-or-out contracts came in just after my last contract.

        • Well, not everyone can move from f2f to online in a week, so it will be hard to make you redundant. ๐Ÿ™‚
