In response to Eugi’s weekly prompt “tree of life“:
In our search for connection
we have raised a new tree
from the concrete and asphalt.
Steel skinned and copper veined,
it towers straight and strong,
above the playground, layered
with the wood-chipped eucalypts
that keep our children clean,
and safe from the touch of the earth.
The title is a reference to the belltrees in Terry Dowling’s Rynosseros novels. I think these towers are their ancestors.
Like your blog…..educating and entertaining read.
thanks Usha 🙂
I love your unique approach to the prompt. Trees have their purpose no matter what they look like. Thank you so much for participating.
Thanks Eugi 🙂 I was struggling for ideas for “tree of life”, then I drove past one of these towers in Canberra yesterday and it struck me that perhaps we’re so desperate for connection because we’ve attenuated our connection to soil and real trees so much.
You’re welcome!
